Medium: Not Sure If It’s Working For This Queer

I came to Medium less than a year ago, and during my first four to six months on the platform I read and engaged with lots of other authors. However, now, everything is always behind a pay wall. I only come to post, and that feels shitty. I want to feel like there is a community. I write a lot, I am sitting on a few essays, and I have no intention of pay walling them. Also, as an unemployed trans student, I don’t have the five dollars to give. I mean, okay, I could probably find that money, but it’s always five more dollars — or ten — for this and then that. And again, if I give my work away, why should I have to pay for someone else’s? And to be honest, lots of trans content is still free, but it’s buried under a sludge of premium content. I dislike the push towards only monetized content.

So, no definite plans here, just thinking through my fingers. But if I am being honest, I’ve started to drag my feet here, and I am still writing lots, I just don’t feel like posting here. IDK???

I’m trans, a PhD candidate in Gender Studies, and a researcher.
